Meet Your Mentors
Each New Shoots virtual workshop was led by two mentors from the University of British Columbia’s School of Creative Writing. Bios are accurate as of the original workshop time period (2021).
David Johnston

David Johnston is an award-winning documentary film producer, writer and literary agent with more than 30 years’ experience working with arts, cultural and not-for-profit organizations. More info on David here.
David’s Land Acknowledgement: As we work toward reconciliation, it is important to acknowledge that the land on which David is working on is the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee (HOE-den-ah-SHOW-nee), and the Huron-Wendat. We are mindful of broken covenants and the need for each of us as individuals and as a society to strive to respectfully renew our relationship with indigenous people. We acknowledge and respect their culture, spirituality, history and their stewardship of this land.
Erin Lindsay
Erin Lindsay is a Montreal-based writer, creator, performer and former arts administrator interested in interdisciplinary approaches to narrative that encourage connection, healing, and social change. More info on Erin here.
Erin’s Land Acknowledgement: Erin Lindsay is based out of (Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal) which is situated on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehà:ka, a place which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst many First Nations including the Kanien’kehá:ka of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Huron/Wendat, Abenaki, and Anishinaabeg. Erin recognizes how her history, language and whiteness as a settler has contributed to harmful and oppressive colonization and is actively working to become more accountable, anti-racist and decolonial in her life and creative practice.
