Desert Storm by Angela

ANGER in the protester’s face
Speaks of failure
And the world’s lost pace
Of peace and understanding.

DEFIANT cheers from Iraqi crowds
Speak of hatred
And antipathy out loud
Of allied forces against them.

SORROW for the soldier of war
Speaks of victory
But he fights no more
Of dust he has returned.

EMPTINESS in the soldier’s eyes
Speaks of doubts
And unspoken lies
Of his chance of returning.

INTOLERANCE on Bush’s behalf
Brings troops in uniforms.
Blood is shed and lives are lost
Just dust of a desert storm.
