Part 2: Show Me the Monet

Kathleen and Sonia explore Mike Gibbons’ ekphrastic poem based on Monet’s Water Lily Pond.  Kathleen and Sonia dialogue about Banksy’s Show Me the Monet, which is in dialogue with Monet’s original painting.  How does it change your view of contemporary art? The video focuses on dialogues and messages between art forms.

EXERCISE: Write Your Own Ekphrastic Poem

Write an ekphrastic poem based on Banksy’s Show Me the Monet. This should be no less than 10-15 lines. It can be in any form from Sonnet to Spoken Word.  Do not use Show Me the Monet as your title since Gibbons has already used it. Titles are important in poetry! We’d like you to create your own!

Part 3: Closing Thoughts

Kathleen and Sonia thank you for joining WRDPNTRS and would like you to prepare for next week by thinking about an artist or a work you find meaningful or impactful.

REFLECTION

For next week, think about an artist or work you admire. Use your unique perspective to reflect on the special style or personal impact of that artist or work.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME!
